A little care can make a big difference to how long your clothing — and the artwork printed on it — stays looking its best.

Different garments, fabrics and printing methods can require different treatment, so always check the care label supplied with your garment first. Where those instructions differ from the general advice below, follow the label.

KEEPING PRINTS LOOKING THEIR BEST

For most printed garments, a few simple habits can help preserve the fabric, colour and design:

Wash inside out — This reduces friction against the printed surface during washing.
Keep it cool — Lower-temperature washes are generally gentler on both fabric and prints. Follow the maximum temperature stated on the care label.
Use a gentle cycle — Where appropriate for the garment, gentler washing can reduce unnecessary wear.
Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals — These can affect both the garment and printed artwork.
Air dry where possible — High heat can be hard on prints and some fabrics. If tumble drying is permitted by the care label, use an appropriate low setting.
Don't iron directly over prints — If ironing is permitted, turn the garment inside out and follow its temperature instructions.
Skip dry cleaning unless the label allows it — Some printing methods and materials may not respond well to the process.

T-SHIRTS & LONG SLEEVES

Wash inside out and follow the temperature shown on the garment label. Air drying can help reduce unnecessary heat exposure and wear to printed areas.

HOODIES & SWEATSHIRTS

Turn inside out before washing and avoid excessive heat where possible. Heavier garments may take longer to air dry, so give them enough space and ventilation to dry properly.

HATS & CAPS

Construction varies considerably between styles, so check the individual care instructions before washing. Spot cleaning or gentle hand cleaning may be preferable for structured headwear where permitted by the care label.

JACKETS & ALL-OVER PRINT GARMENTS

Materials, linings and printing methods can vary significantly between these products. Follow the garment's individual care label rather than assuming the same instructions used for a printed T-shirt will apply.

PRINTS CHANGE WITH WEAR

Even well-cared-for clothing naturally changes over time.

Repeated wearing and washing can gradually soften fabric, alter colour and create signs of wear in printed artwork. That's part of the life of a garment, but careful washing, drying and storage can help slow the process.

If you want to keep a design looking as close to new as possible, wash only when needed, keep temperatures sensible and minimise unnecessary heat and abrasion.
